The Strength Behind Her is the first in Yonex’s new athlete video portraits series, designed to showcase Team Yonex players in ways fans haven’t seen before, prioritising personality, depth, and community. The film follows An Se Young as she flees from a high-pressure match into a dreamlike inner world. Here, she reconnects with her brother, parents, and the childhood love of the game that brought her to where she is today.

We wanted to shatter the mould of traditional athlete documentaries, as we felt there were more imaginative, unexpected opportunities to explore in that space. So we dreamed up something different: a visual language that’s more stylised, more cinematic, a bit surreal – the kind of short film that hooks you from the first frame and doesn’t let go.
